Aventum advised Finavia Oyj and Prime Minister’s Office
regarding capitalization of Finavia Oyj

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Airport operator Finavia’s passenger numbers have fallen sharply this year and, as a result, the company’s economic situation has deteriorated significantly.

The State of Finland is preparing to capitalize Finavia with EUR 350 million in order to strengthen the company’s financial position. The Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy has decided to support the request for authorization from Parliament to capitalize the company in connection with the 2021 budget.

Furthermore, Finavia is currently implementing a major development program including the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport expansion project and the development of Lapland airports. Air travel is expected to return to pre-pandemic levels in the long term, and these investments will create opportunities for responsible growth in air traffic after the crisis.

As a long-term owner, the State wants to develop and maintain Finavia’s operations and thus ensure that there is a solid foundation for good domestic and international air connections in the future as well.

Aventum Partners acted as adviser to Finavia and Prime Minister’s Office regarding the contemplated capitalization.
